Which came first? It is a long age-old question that has been debated for many years. Chickens hatch from eggs, but eggs are laid by chickens, making it difficult to say which originally gave rise to the other. Well, the second grade classes at Woodland, Oak Lane, Bethel Hill, and Stories Creek got to debate it as well. Over the past few weeks, they have been participating in the 4-H Embryology project. Twenty-four eggs were delivered to each school at the beginning of May along with the incubator, egg turner, thermometer and other curriculum resources. The kids were introduced to the process of embryology earlier through their butterfly and tadpole projects. But, it is much more hands-on and fascinating to watch a baby chick hatch out from an egg. We hatched out a total of 35 chicks this year. 4-H Embryology
